Few sayings are more prevalent than
This “Count your blessings” axiom,
It reeks of self-centered high handedness,
It demeans other people whom you compare
To make yourself feel better for a while.
You never care to understand the “others”,
Still you in a heartbeat feel superior to them.
But, hey, you never understood yourself,
For if you have, you would know
This sense of bleakness, which makes you count your blessings, is
The one true sense in your life.
No matter how many times you “count your blessings”,
This bleakness follows you untill you make peace with it.
Next time when you want to count your blessings
consider that you being engulfed in this bleakness
Is in itself a blessing in disguise.
